Painting/Remembering Series

For the past month I have been getting ready for a new show.  When I first heard the name of the exhibit, Family, Friends, and Pets, I thought, "I don't have anything to enter, my work is all about my walks by the Sea.  I looked through my work I have ocean paintings in oil and acrylic, seaweed, mixed media by the sea, hand stitched abstract pieces, hand stitched fiber pieces...seagull.  Could that possibly be my pet seagull?  I see it every time I go to the beach...well I see seagulls.  OK that's one piece I could try to enter.

Recently, I started cleaning our closet and under the bed and found old photographs of family members.  There were pictures of my great grandfather, great grandmother, great aunts, grandparents, parents and other people that I am not sure who they are.  Thus my new series, Remembering has started.

Here is one of the pieces which will be in the Family, Friends, and Pets show at the
Blue 7 Gallery, Opening January 29-February 25

To Paint or Stitch

Week 2 of 1 year of stitches

This is my Week 2 of 1 year of stitiches. Originally I was posting stitches for each day but now it is weekly.  This happens to me...the beginning of something new I am very excited and become obsessed.  Then I start a new project and before you know it I have 10 to 15 projects going.  I have three series going at the moment: 1. the year of stitches 2. Remembering series (Mixed Media) 3. By the Sea Ocean Series (Paint) 4. By the Sea -Flight Series (fiber).  Oops I guess that is four not three.
I have two shows coming up so I am painting and stitching whenever I can.

Stitches...

This is what I have completed for this week.  Free form...no plan.  French knots, chain stitch, spider web, and blanket stitch.

Awhile ago I signed up for a ribbon embroidery on Craftsy.  So easy to do when they have a sale. So last night I did lesson one in the ribbon embroidery class.  Stitches are a little wonky but I'm learning. May incorporate this into my 1 year of stitch project...  In the mean time I am also working on my mixed media series which I called Family Series but it is evolving into a remembering series.

Happy New Year 2017- Oh how I wander

It is a new year and looking back at what  my art studio looked like when I moved into it last June and what it looks like today, you can get some idea of how I work. My studio is in my back yard and it is my sanctuary! Some may think it is unorganized (like my son) but to me it is Vicki organized.  At least most of the time I can find what I need.  Sometimes it is like a treasure hunt.
One area is being used as my fabric collage place, which was my paper printing area before I became obsessed with gluing pieces of fabric down. To the left is my painting and mixed media area where I am currently working on some pieces for a show with the theme, "Family, Friends, and Pets"  It is a theme that I am not entirely comfortable with, but it has sparked a mixed media series for me in the family area. At first I thought, "Oh no I don't have any pieces to enter for this show." Then I realized I had one piece I had started a long time ago.  Over the weekend I worked on it and think it is ready to go.

Of course there is my "By the Sea Series" paintings  that are calling my name to work on.

Then to the right and back of studio is my stitching and fiber art area. There I have about 10 pieces I am working on: Flight, By the Sea Fiber, and Tide pools series.

I recently signed up for an online Encaustics class and need to find space near a window for ventilation,  A little nervous I might burn this whole place down.

So for the year 2017 I plan on blogging to help me complete some of my projects.  Because now that I have written about all of the pieces to complete I realize I better get back to creating before school starts and I am back to teaching.
Happy Creating to Everyone!
